WE DID IT!! WE HAVE SECURED THE LAND FOR THE SKATEPARK!!
We are so happy with this successful outcome - a massive thank you to the following for the guidance and support through this challenging stage: Moray Council, Moray Council Community Support Officers, LCDT, Local Councillors, all other Lossie groups, Alan Jones Associates, all funders to date and all our loyal LSI supporters! Thank you all so much! |
We are so excited to let you know that we have officially entered our Community Asset Transfer application (to acquire land to build the skatepark on) to Moray Council.
Please click the link to show your support and comment on your thoughts for a skatepark in Lossie. The link will close on 27th March, so please crack on!! If you are a business or group who would like to formally send in your support via written letter, the address for this is also in the link provided. |
Thanks to kind donations from the public, local businesses and our own fundraising efforts, we have managed to raise the £6000 to complete the Noise, Light and Drainage Impact Assessments, as requested by the Moray Council!! Now that these are fully done and dusted, we are gearing up to make our final application to Moray Council for a CAT (Community Asset Transfer) of the proposed land for the skatepark. We have a few hoops to jump through yet, but the ball is once again rolling towards a skatepark for Lossie!

We held a Ceilidh night on Saturday 23rd March in Lossie Town Hall, to raise some much needed funds for the Skatepark project. Doors opened at 7:30pm and the band played from 8pm until late. This event aimed to help raise funds to cover the £6000 fee to have three impact assessments done on the proposed skatepark site. Many thanks to Deli-Cious and Forty Four for selling tickets for us!

We have been working closely with Moray Council to secure a lease for a section of land in the Coulardbank Playing Fields. At the moment, our application is on hold as we need to secure funding to cover the cost of a Noise Impact Assessment, a Light Impact Assessment and a Drainage Impact Assessment. These assessments are vital to the progression of the skatepark project, and they must be carried out by professionals in the industry. We have an estimated figure of £6000 to cover the cost of all three of these assessments combined. We are seeking support from the local community, local businesses and anyone who feels they can help with this. As a group we are planning several fundraising activities that will commence in early February 2019 to help raise funds for this aspect of the project. If you'd like to donate to the cause, please click "support us now" in the Crowdfunder link here ->

We are so happy to be one of the Co-Op's chosen causes! To help us raise vital funds, we’ll be relying on Co-op shoppers. Every time they buy Co-op own-brand products they get a 5% reward for themselves, and a further 1% goes to local causes like ours. We really hope that people will visit the website and choose to support us. You can access the link directly by clicking the 'Choose Us' button.

We held a stall at the Lossie Raft Race, which is an annual event organised by RAF Lossiemouth personnel. We received lots of encouraging comments from everyone that attended our stall, and we also managed to raise a significant amount of funds for our project. Our 'Guess the Square' was extremely popular with the public, with the grand prize being the giant trailer of wood as seen in the photo. Congratulations to Barbara Mitchell who won the whole lot!

We held a stall at the Seafest 2018 in Lossiemouth on 7th July. Our tombola paired with the Lossie High School pupils 'Soak a Teacher' managed to raise over £100 for the Skatepark! We also managed to spread the word about recent survey monkey and online petition, and received lots of support from everyone visiting the Seafest event.

We are delighted to announce that our Logo Competition Winner, is Jamie Edment! Jamie's entry was chosen to be professionally mastered by a local Artist and is now our official logo for Lossiemouth Skatepark Initiative. We think it is awesome, don't you? Many thanks to everyone who sent in designs, we loved them all but there could only be one winner.
|
We have launched a very important survey online, which we really need you to help us with! It takes less than 5 minutes to fill out, and is as easy as click, click, click! Please could you fill one out yourself, and then share with everyone you know via facebook, whatsapp, messenger and email? We can't get a skatepark without at least 100 of these being completed. Thanks everyone!

Our next promotional event will be a Logo design competition, which will be open to all people living in Moray. The Moray College Visual Communication Students will also be invited to prepare logo ideas, as well as take the winning logo entry and use professional programs to create a professional looking logo. Please see the Logo Competition page for more info. This can be found in the drop down box under Events & Promotions.

Seafest was great fun! Well done to everyone who gave skateboarding a go for the very first time! We saw some great skills on display on the day from more seasoned skaters too. Thanks go out to Windswept Brewery, MacLeans bakery, and all the generous people who donated to the tombola. Thanks also to RAF Lossiemouth for providing the means to create our info photo boards. And more thanks to the Seafest committee for allowing us to offer the skateramp, and for organising such a great day for the community. Oh, and thanks to all who shared posts to help promote our prescence! Please check out the link 'In the Press' to read a newspaper report.

LSI organised a bus trip to several skateparks throughout Moray and the Highlands. The event saw in excess of 40 people coming along to learn more about different designs and qualities of skateparks. We also met with James King (Creative Skate Store and Highland Skate Park Association) who spoke at length about the process of designing, funding, building and maintaining skateparks. The day was a huge success, with the LSI acquiring an abundance of knowledge to take us forward to the next steps of our project. All youngsters who attended the event, gave plenty of feedback and suggestions, and rated the day as extremely useful and enjoyable.

What a great day! Thanks to the Co Op, Bam Nuttall, Lossie Community Centre, Forres Skatepark Initiative, Lossiemouth Community Development Trust, and all the members of the public who made it an amazing and successful day! Thanks also to all the teens/young adults who came to skate, and were so patient and encouraging with the wee kids trying a ramp for the first time - you guys are a credit to Moray! Big thanks to anyone we've forgotten to mention - we're all exhausted and brains are fried! We have some great pics of people who skated and scooted today! If you missed today's event, you have another chance to give it a go at Seafest in July!

We invited entries from local Primary and Secondary Schools, to design their own skatepark. Here are some photos of the entries that came in - there were some excellent designs!
We also had an ideas wall for people to share ideas, and let us know what they were looking for in a skatepark for Lossiemouth. |
